Nestled in the urban neighborhoods of Pittsburgh, you can find the hidden apiaries of Beeboy Honey quietly producing more than 1,500 pounds of golden nectar each year. The owner, Randy, doesn’t advertise his operation much beyond word of mouth. He only commits to sell what his hives can handle each year as the demand for local honey grows slowly and deliberately in the area. This is much like his business partners, the honeybees. They dedicate their lives to slowly building the hive and maintaining its production of honey for the whole colony community.

With the growing movement to reconnect back to our food sources and desire to understand where our food is coming from, the look of the supermarket and where we find nourishment is changing. This project is centered around reconnecting with the earth to alleviate seasonal allergies on a teaspoon of local honey a day. I found relief almost instantly from my congested sinuses when I ingested the honey daily, as well as a newfound lightness in my spirit from witnessing the magic of the bees and their humble hard work paying off for the greater good of us all.
